If you have had a stroke and have chronic weakness down one side Dr. Maarten Immink would like to hear from you. He is currently recruiting volunteer participants for a research project being conducted by the School of Health Sciences at UniSA, Adelaide, South Australia.
This project is investigating outcomes associated with participation in a 12-week yoga and meditation program involving weekly group classes and home practice. The program is entirely free for participants and they get to keep the materials they are given for the program (yoga mat, CD & home program booklet).
Please feel free to contact Dr. Maarten Immink, Principal Investigator – Yoga for Stroke Project ph: (08) 8302 267 if you would like to participate in the program or have any questions.
Would that I were in Australia…I love it there…but I am near Boston, MA.
August 8th, 2010 at 7:59 pmI wonder if you know a TYPE of Yoga that is good for people who
1. cannot kneel
and
2. cannot stand on one leg
and
3. is about 40 lbs overweight( heavy bottom-type!)
I had bilateral knee replacements 10 yrs ago and do not kneel in order to avoid problems and then I had a stroke 3 yrs ago, from which I have pretty well recovered with limitations in R leg….not back 100% though I can walk unaided, drive, etc., all day long. Would like to take yoga but don’t know what kind would be adaptable!
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Margaret( a young 72)
