Snapshots Through Deaf Eyes: Photography exhibition

Ten Deaf children participated in a two-day photographic workshop with professional Deaf photographer Sophia Borick during the October 2011 school holidays. The participants were aged 8 to 12 and came from three primary schools – they took many photos and had lots of fun.

The children edited their best work using Photoshop in preparation for this exhibition, which will be on display in the DECS gallery 9am to 5pm weekdays from Monday 5 December 2011 to Monday 2 January 2012.

Come and see a different perspective through Deaf eyes.

Artists from across Adelaide have cleaned out their studios and from the resulting working drawings, sketches, artist proofs, explorations and completed works unBOUND has been created.

For two days unframed work, from every stage of the art making process, from the studios over 20 artists, and from mediums including photography, works on canvas and paper, and mixed media, will be on sale at this unique event.

But they who hesitate will lose as in unBOUND once the work is sold it is taken, off the wall and out the door. With new works going up as others are sold, the offerings in this sale are always changing. Come once, twice, three times and see new works each time.

And with most work priced for under $100 you will be able to fill your entire home with new artworks or perhaps get that early Christmas present. So make time to check out unBOUND, an art sale that won’t be framed in.

ArtAbility Exhibition 2011

In 2011, ADEC will again be proudly presenting ArtAbility® to the public, with support from the City of Melbourne.

The exhibition will run from 5th to 12th December, and will be located at The Atrium, Federation Square, as it has been in years past. This exhibition unites a range of talented artists of all ages from a variety of cultures.

This year’s theme is Freedom, and it is anticipated that interpretations of this theme will be presented in a variety of mediums including paintings (oil, acrylic, ink), sketches, sculptures, tapestries, photographs and poetry.

ArtAbility® is now in its 7th year. It provides a high profile platform for artists to express themselves in a way that transcends language, race, age, physical and mental health challenges. Many up and coming artists have gone on to host their own exhibitions after taking part in ArtAbility®, and artworks have been purchased by many high profile customers and are on display in public and corporate venues around Melbourne.

ArtAbility® is proudly sponsored by Federation Square, Hope For the Future, Jen Clark Design, the Victorian Multicultural Commission, and the Office of Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship.

If you would like to be involved in ArtAbility®, either as an artist, or as a sponsor, please contact the Artistic and General Coordinator, on 9480 1666 or via email at artability@adec.org.au.
