Autism SA has announced that Drs Gerry and June Groden will be presenting a two day seminar at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on 29 and 30 April 2010. They invite you to register for the conference and expand your knowledge in the area of developmental disabilities.

About Drs Gerry and June Groden

The Drs Groden are considered pioneers in the field of autism and developmental disabilities. Their primary areas of interest are stress and anxiety and procedures to reduce stress.

Dr June Groden has focused on the development of relaxation and imagery based procedures for a population with autism and development disabilities. She is the director of the Groden Centre in Providence, Rhode Island.

How to run a Social Skills Group

10 March 2010

4:30pm – 7:30pm

Topics covered include: why we teach social skills, what social skills to teach, how to set up and resource a group, suggested teaching strategies, behaviour management tips and other topics/fun activities to include in the group.

The Western Autism Parents Group are holding their next meeting on Monday 1st March at Garden Cottage located in the Bower Cottages Community Centre on Bower Road at Ethelton (Bower Cottages are on the left if you are coming from the Port Road end, just after you cross the Port River. There’s a car park at the rear which you can enter from the side street).

The meeting starts at 7.30p.m.

Sam Powrie will talk about selecting vocabulary for language programmes, and explain something about Gail van Tatenhove’s ‘PIXON’ vocabulary lists, which seek to support the development of both understanding and expression.

Jean-Marie, a parent of a child with ASD will also be talking about and demonstrating the ‘Interactive Desk’ he has built for his son’s learning programme at home.

Luxury coach travel to and from Flinders St Bus depot in Adelaide to Mallala Motor Sport Park on Thursday March 11.

The SA Liberal Party have released their Policy on Education for Children with ASD.

The policy outlines their proposed approach to education for children with ASD and their proposal for increased services dedicated to assisting education of children with ASD.

You are also invited to the next Disability Speaks steering committee meeting here at the Disability Information Resource Centre (Dirc) in Gilles Street on Thusday Feb 11th at 12.00pm where we will be finalizing plans for the Forum the following week and planning Disability Speaks activities past that event. Volunteers willing to help organise the Public Meeting night will be greatly appreciated.

A whole day event for anyone wanting to understand more about autism spectrum disorders and how to support children and adults with ASD will be held on Tuesday 4th August, 2009.

The venue is AAMI Stadium Function Complex, Turner Drive, West Lakes  SA. Tony Attwood will present on:
