The Every Australian Counts campaign has a story on Jane and her 12 year old daughter who was born with cerebral palsy:
Jane and her 12 year old daughter Jessica are like many of us, busy running between appointments, juggling commitments and always short of time.
Sound familiar to you?
But for Jane and Jessica the NDIS could give them more time.
Jessica was born with cerebral palsy. She uses a wheelchair, cannot speak and needs round-the-clock care. And on top of everything else this family has to do, her mum Jane spends hours and hours filling out forms for support and respite care.
The NDIS could make a huge difference to a family like Jane and Jessica, with a tailored individual program for Jess to make sure she has what she needs and funding from one source.
Watch Jane tell her story.
Fill out a form to support the Every Australian Counts campaign.

The VSA is currently seeking a more comprehensive picture of international organizations and initiatives that include a focus on arts & disability. In some countries, there are specialist organisations to ensure accessibility to the arts and culture for children and young people with disabilities. In other countries, general programmes include a substantial focus on an integrated approach to ensure the arts are accessible to all.
This detailed mapping will gather evidence in order to inform future decision making and policy for arts education for children with disabilities and will give insight into key issues and opportunities and highlight quality practice and innovations. The survey and research is being conducted by Professor James Catterall of UCLA and Professor Anne Bamford of the University of the Arts, London, both of whom have long standing commitments to the vital place of the arts in the lives of children with disabilities.
The survey is available, in English, French and Spanish and takes about 15 minutes to complete.
For more info visit www.ifacca.org/announcements/2011/03/09/survey-arts-and-children-disability.
The survey can be found here surveys.internationalresearchagency.org/vsa/index.php?lang=en&sid=88297.

The Raising Children Network is looking for Australian parents of children with special needs aged 3-9 years to take part in the evaluation of a new online program. This online tool, called the Behaviour Skills Builder, will help parents manage their child’s difficult behaviour.
Parents can complete the program in their own time. The program guides parents through a step-by-step process that helps them understand why the difficult behaviour occurs. It also helps them tailor plans and strategies to suit their child.
There are sets of questionnaires to fill in before and after the program – each set will take about 20 minutes to complete.

New content is being created for the sa.gov.au website and volunteers are sought to be part of a reference group to evaluate the new content:
Seeking parent, carer and guardians to participate in a reference group and to provide feedback about education and early childhood
The sa.gov.au website is a whole-of-government initiative to create a single website for the public to access government information and services. The main objective of the website is to give the public accurate, up to date, easy to find and easy to understand information.
New web pages are being developed for parents, carers and guardians to provide information about:
- Early childhood services (child care, playgroups, etc)
- Preschools and kindergartens
- Schools (junior primary, primary, secondary/high)
- Skills based training / vocational education and training (eg. TAFE)
- University
- Community education
To assist the team in developing a ‘user friendly’ website, I am looking for a group of parents to ‘road test’ the structure of the website and provide feedback on the new web content.
Each of our major topics (listed above) will have its own reference group of 8-12 people. We are asking for volunteers. This may involve providing feedback via the web, email, over the phone or in person. Ideally members of the reference group will not work in education as they may have prior knowledge that may not be representative of the general public.
We expect that the majority of activities will be web based and will take between 5 and 15 minutes. There may be some face-to-face meetings, however, we recognise that some people may not be able to travel into Adelaide. If this is the case we will look at alternatives such as telephone or web conferences.
If you would like to provide feedback and have an influence on the new information that will replace the existing Education, skills and learning content on the sa.gov.au website, please complete the form at http://bit.ly/refgroup. Alternatively, you can contact myself or Kristen Morgan on telephone 8204 1438 or email sagovau@sa.gov.au.
Please feel free to share this request with your friends and relatives.
Regards,
Christine Irmler
