Autism SA is a leading provider of services to individuals and families living with an Autism Spectrum Disorder in Australia and is seeking to employ an inspirational Team Leader who is passionate to improve outcomes for families and children in the Northern area.

The Team Leader – North is responsible for the running and supervision of Autism SA’s northern suburbs facility, supervising a team of support workers in providing respite and day options to a variety of clients with intellectual disabilities and/or challenging behaviours. Some work will occur at Autism SA’s head office in Netley.

Duties may include administration, planning, staff supervision, family liaison and roster coordination whilst ensuring quality services are being delivered, evaluated and maintained.

A degree in a relevant discipline (eg. social work, disability studies, psychology) is required.

This is a full time, ongoing position subject to a satisfactory probationary period and funding agreements.

Independent Advocacy is seeking a person to commence duties in January 2011 for 20 hours per week with potential to increase to 28 hours (negotiable). Whitelion and SA Tall Ships are working together on the Sail for Success project, where young people from state care and leaving youth justice or at risk of involvement take an active part in a voyage on the training vessel “One and All”. We aim to provide our participants with nationally-accredited training and secure jobs not only in the sea-faring and marine diesel/engineering industries, but also in hospitality, environmental protection, offshore employment and the aquaculture and seafood industries.

In addition, our program will provide the young people with important life skills such as team-work, problem-solving and conflict resolution.

The voyage will be a unique opportunity for the participating young people to access employment opportunities and accredited training pathways through the skills training acquired through the One & All Youth Development Program. During the course of the voyage, they will be able to develop employability skills and gain accreditation in:

• Watch Leaders course (One & All training course practical)
• Yachting Aust. Competent Crew Course Practical
• SACE Level 1 Outdoor and Environment
• VET Courses
• Duke of Edinburgh Program – Bronze Award
• Membership of the Sail Training Association 1 year

This unique variety of accreditations, together with our Whitelion employment program, will enable the participants to advance into further sea-faring opportunities (e.g. through on-board employment at Able Seaman entry-level), marine engineer diesel (through the static training facility in dry dock), the seafood preparation industry, construction industry (e.g. rigging and scaffolding), aquaculture, hospitality and even coastal environmental protection.

Some of these placements will be employment-related, some work-experience and some will open the way for further accredited training, by obtaining Elements of Shipboard Safety through the Australian Fisheries Academy or their Whitecard enabling them to work in the Construction industry.
