Her Grief/His Grief: The Influence of Gender on Grief and Bereavement

The experience of grief and bereavement is highly individual, but many assumptions and expectations remain in our society about the ways in which women and men grieve. Understanding and disentangling the gendered nature of these assumptions and expectations allows community support staff and health care workers to offer the most beneficial support options to each individual, by focusing on the person, not just their gender.

This one day workshop will engage participants in an exploration of the gendered nature of grief and bereavement. It will expand upon and challenge assumptions about “men’s and women’s grief”. The workshop will offer frameworks and strategies for understanding and working with bereaved and grieving individuals in a way that honors their personal grieving style.

The workshop is presented by Greg Roberts BSW (Hons), a social worker with 12 years experience working in the Health and Community Services sector.

Presented by the Australian Centre for Grief and Bereavement (ACGB).
