What is Youth Mental Health First Aid?
Mental Health First Aid is assistance provided to a person developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. The first aid is given until appropriate professional treatment is received or until the crisis resolves.
The Youth Mental Health First Aid Training (YMHFA) is designed to train adults to assist young people in mental health crisis situations and/or in the early stages of mental health problems.
At completion of the two day training participants will learn the signs and symptoms of mental health problems affecting young people, where and how to get help and what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective.
The Youth Mental Health First Aid Course is for adults working or living with adolescents.

The Family Support and Carer Respite Project being conducted by the Mental Health Coalition of SA Inc is due to be wound up in October 2009. They are seeking to evaluate the project and are seeking feedback from organisations involved to this point. Please give them a call on 8212 8873.
They are also offering free training to respite workers. For further details keep reading.
As part of the project, we are able to offer mental health training to respite workers as this has been identified as a clear need.
Normally this would cost $190 for a full day or $95 for a half day, but with this project we are able to offer this training free of charge for respite workers.
We can offer a limited number of full day or half day training sessions between now and the end of September 2009. Please see the attached flyer for more information. free training for respite workers We can arrange other dates as required.
In order to organise this we need to know how many staff or volunteers you would like to attend the training, whether full day or half day suits your requirements better and the location of staff. We are also keen to organise sessions outside the metro area, to ensure that this training is reaching the widest possible audience.
Also if there are any particular days or weeks when attendance would be difficult, please let us know.
Regards
