Call for Bloggers

The Mental Health Coalition of SA together with the Media Resource Centre are seeking participants to be bloggers on a new site ‘Mind Share’ a Mental Health Community On Line – which will be released during Mental Health Week. They are seeking individuals who are interested in blogging about their views on mental health, events, news, controversy and personal stories. You may also submit blogs from the perspective of being a person with a lived experience of a mental health problem.

They are also seeking poetry and short stories for the site.

The site will open for Mental Health Week on the 9th of October at the Media Resource Centre’s Mercury Cinema’s.

You may participate in the following ways:

  • To join up to be a regular blogger on the site (this can be once a week or once every few months).
  • To submit original poetry in the form of text to be viewed on the site
  • To submit short stories for the site in text format

Mental Health Week Exhibition Trail

Register Your Artwork Today

Exhibit in Metropolitan and Rural South Australia during October as part of Mental Health Week. Artists and collectives may exhibit in a variety of locations and also enter to be part of the main exhibitions at the Town Hall and the Bakehouse Theatre.

  • Established Artists at The Adelaide Town Hall – opening 15/10/11 at 11am.
  • Emerging Artists at The Bakehouse Theatre – opening 10/10/11 at 6pm.
  • Artists may submit up to five pieces to the curated exhibitions
  • Artists and Organisations may enter a body of work to be exhibited at other sites and locations not just the Town Hall and Bakehouse (variety of venues)
  • Prizes are awarded at the curated exhibition in the categories of: Technical Skill, Expression, Experimentation, Wild Card and People’s Choice!
  • With judges Steve Donaldson, Daisy and professional artist Chris Wake
  • Exhibit along with other talented artists
  • Be part of a widely publicised & marketed event
  • Open to emerging and established artists

The Mental Health Week Exhibition is open to everyone including Carers, those living with a mental health problem, a disadvantage and the general public. As 1 in 5 of us will experience a mental health problem in any given year the Big Circle is a group that is relevant for us all.

Making a Difference for Carers of People with a Mental Illness

As part of Mental Health Week 2010, Carers SA is presenting a program consisting of 3 sessions showcasing Carers SA’s services and model in supporting Carers of people with mental illness. This session has been designed specifically for service providers and family carers. Places are limited and bookings are essential.

Stress Less during Mental Health Week

What is Stress Less in the Workforce Mental Health Project about?

Stress less in the workforce is a project designed for Australian businesses to engage in during Mental Health Week 10-16 Oct 2010. This program has been created in order to reduce work related stress within Australian business and the Mental Health Coalition is registering interested businesses in the program. Working groups will participate in creating awareness about mental health problems in the workforce during the month of October.

Why?

Stress related presenteeism and absenteeism is costing the Australian economy nearly $15 Billion a year.*

Free talks for Organisations by Centacare’s ACCESS Programs. The Access program is a provider of workplace counselling, training and consultancy services to over 200 companies throughout South Australia. ACCESS consultants are available to organisations who have an interest mental wellbeing in the workplace throughout Mental Health Week.

Cota Beyond Maturity Blues sessions

As part of Mental Health Week 2010 Council on the Ageing (COTA) are promoting the Cota Beyond Maturity Blues project. This project is a free service through a partnership between Cota and Beyond Blue. It is an information session about maintaining good mental health with handouts, give aways and morning tea provided afterwards. COTA would like to have a few of these sessions occurring around the Metropolitan and Rural Areas as part of mental health week 10-16 Oct.

An Excerpt from the attached brochure is:

Peer Educators from COTA in all States and Territories are now available to host interactive ‘beyond maturity blues – depression and older people’ information sessions for your seniors group or club.

These sessions focus on learning about depression, treatments, ways to identify and prevent depression, how to support those with depression and what you can do to enjoy better health.

COTA Peer Educators are volunteers over 50 who have been trained by COTA to talk with groups about depression and its effects.

These groups include:

  • Carers
  • Chronic disease groups
  • Men
  • Veterans
  • Rural communities

A peer educator will be allocated to your group and session details will be confirmed. COTA also provides sessions for CaLD communities and has bilingual Italian, Greek, Vietnamese, and Chinese Peer Educators to deliver to non-English speaking groups.

‘Beyond Maturity Blues’ Information sessions are for Seniors Clubs and Groups. these sessions focus on learning about depression, treatments, ways to identify and prevent depression, how to support those with depression and what you can do to enjoy better health.
