First meeting of the Support Workers Support Group

A new support group for support workers has been formed, named the Support Workers Support Group (SWSG). All support workers are invited to the first meeting of the SWSG on Friday February 24th.

This will be an opportunity for support workers across all organisations to liaise with one another and create supportive social networks.

MyTime Peer Support Groups

MyTime groups provide facilitated peer support for mums, dads, grandparents and anyone caring for children with a disability, developmental delay or chronic medical condition. Socialise and share ideas and information with others who understand the rewards and intensity of caring for a child with special needs.

Joining MyTime

Mothers, fathers and other family carers of children who are eligible to receive the Carer Allowance (Child) can join MyTime. For more information about eligibility for the Carer Allowance, visit www.centrelink.gov.au.

Lupus, Scleroderma & Sjogrens SA Support Meeting

The next meeting of the Lupus, Scleroderma & Sjogrens SA Support Group will be held on Tuesday April 13th at 7.30pm.

Sally Goodwin, Psychologist

Subject “Managing Insonmia” with an emphasis on how to manage worry at night, (including worrying about not sleeping well). Sally will also recap on her previous presentation “Pain Management”.

Sally’s main areas of interest are working with people with chronic physical health problems, particular persistent pain, respiratory illness and she also has a keen interest in insomnia management. Time will be made available for questions from the floor.

Light refreshments will be provided after the meeting. Prospective members, carers and family members are welcome.

Gold coin donation would be appreciated.

Western Area Autism Parent Group

The Western Autism Parents Group are holding their next meeting on Monday 1st March at Garden Cottage located in the Bower Cottages Community Centre on Bower Road at Ethelton (Bower Cottages are on the left if you are coming from the Port Road end, just after you cross the Port River. There’s a car park at the rear which you can enter from the side street).

The meeting starts at 7.30p.m.

Sam Powrie will talk about selecting vocabulary for language programmes, and explain something about Gail van Tatenhove’s ‘PIXON’ vocabulary lists, which seek to support the development of both understanding and expression.

Jean-Marie, a parent of a child with ASD will also be talking about and demonstrating the ‘Interactive Desk’ he has built for his son’s learning programme at home.

Guide Dogs SA/NT Carer Support Group

Are you a carer/family member of a person who has a vision impairment?

Would you like to network with other carers in an informal and supportive group?

Do you have personal experiences that might be of help to others?

Guide Dogs SA/NT is implementing a carer support group which will meet monthly and facilitate discussion and support.  A register of carers who would like to support others on a 1:1 basis is also being established.

The first meeting of this group is being held on Wednesday 4 February from 10:00am to 12:00 noon at Guide Dogs SA/NT 33 Exeter Terrace, Devon Park, SA.
